The film takes place in 1986 in Berlin. Gerd Wisler works as an investigator, he is a specialist in wiretapping devices. In his career, he rose to the rank of captain in the Stasi secret police. Now the main character has to embark on a responsible task, where he is assigned to spy on the famous German writer Georg Dreiman. Gerd has to keep track of his every move.<br />
The writer did nothing wrong, but at one time he crossed the path of a prominent figure of the Central Committee and this influential man began to suspect him of many things. It turns out that Georg is having an affair with a young actress named Christa Maria Ziland.
